The fishing in and around the Milne Bay Islands is truly unique.
Trevally, mackerel, dogtooth tuna, marlin and spectacular reef fish
such as coral trout are just some of the varieties to be found.
In the fresh water rivers you can find papuan black bass and spot
tail bass, along with barramundi and saratoga.
Or, if this is not your style, relax and do some bottom fishing
from the back deck of Barbarian II or with the local fisherman in
their dugout canoes. The remote reefs in this amazing chain of islands
offer spectacular fishing for the inexperienced or experienced angular
alike.

Fishing in and around the Tami Islands
- Morobe Province
|
|
This group of small islands lies within a necklace of extensive
fringing reefs some 54 miles east of Lae. They enclose an idyllic,
well-protected lagoon of turquoise water and sandy shores. They
rise from quite deep water, seven and a half miles out from the
eastern coast of the Huon Peninsula and lie in the path of strong
seasonal currents which move between the Solomon and Bismarck Seas.
The reefs and surrounding waters are home to most sedentary fish
and are a port of call for the roaming pelagics. Mackerel in all
sizes to succulent silver planks and brilliantly barred wahoo will
strike from around the deeper reef edges and along current lines.
Expect all of the common tunas, runner, mahimahi, wahoo, sharks
and the three billfish - blue, black and sail - as well as dogtooth
(40 and fifty kilogram doggies have been landed). The reef shallows
will turn up great sport on various trevallys, white cuda and runner.
Experience the excitement of live baiting for doggies, marlin and
big broadbar with Niugini Diving!
